Earlier this month, rumors started swirling about the expansion of the Cropsey family's Gravesend Bay land into a site large enough for big-box retail. Now there's word on just what kind of big-box retail, and one name that's being thrown around is, brace, Walmart. The property's broker tells the Brooklyn Paper there's "definitely been interest" from the retailer, which has also expressed definite interest in Brooklyn's Gateway II shopping center (and sparked fear elsewhere). One problem with the Gravesend Bay site?which is next to the land where Thor Equities might be putting a BJ's Wholesale Club?is that it would require a zoning change to retail. One other problem: the neighbors aren't exactly thrilled with the idea.
