Let's close the loop on the Upper East Side's troubled Sloane Mansion, which went up for auction yesterday after an attempted flip at $67 million and several meetings with the PriceChopper. The house sold for nearly $40 million to Alexander Rovt, a man with the excellent job description of "fertilizer magnate." Rovt purchased the debt owed on the building before the auction happened, leading other potential purchases not to bother bidding. Smart strategy! Rovt's plan is to restore the place as a single-family mansion and move in. [WSJ; previously]
