Is This the West Village's Coolest Rooftop?

New, 10 comments

Architizer says that this townhouse rooftop in the West Village has the best city views in the area, but the rooftop itself is pretty incredible on its own. The rippling 1,100 square foot space has eliminated the need for furniture or planters, making the deck clean and slick. How'd they pull that off? According to the project's architects, Graftworks, "To generate the geometry of the deck, the water tower’s slatted wood form is conceptually laid on its side, sliced open, and partially unfurled. A new landscape surface is then created on the roof out of six parallel strips that organize the elements of the program into zones for different activities.” Yes, we're seething with jealousy as well.
