They're grainy and a bit dark and more than a bit preliminary, but folks, we don't care, because these are still renderings for a piece of SPURA. The Essex Street Market was one of the later additions to the SPURA plan, and some Lower East Siders would prefer that it just be kept as it is. That option is still on the table, but so is a new Essex Street Market space on the southeast corner of Essex and Delancy streets, according to the Lo-Down's report from a SPURA planning session last night. The new space, shown in the images above, would be twice the size of the current one and would have two levels and an outdoor courtyard. No decisions about the market's fate have been made yet?but this is SPURA, so that's implied.
