Whitney Officially Closes on MePa Lots for $20 Million

It took about five years between us hearing of the Whitney's MePa ambitions and the groundbreaking for their Renzo Piano designed building. However, it turns out the deal between the Whitney and the New York City Economic Development Corporation wasn't completely official until this week. Better late than never though, the lots at 93 Gansevoort Street and 820 Washington Street which housed a meatpacking plant (duh) closed yesterday with a final closing cost of $19,185,497. Not bad considering the Whitney sold its Upper East Side brownstones for $95 million.
