The Gowanus Whole Foods is finally underway, which means it's time to begin the process of getting a zoning variance to build a 56,000-square-foot store instead of the 10,000-square-foot one currently allowed on the lot. First hurdle: cleared. Community Board 6 recommended that Whole Foods get its variance, even though the supermarket's financial hardship argument has raised some eyebrows in the community. CB 6's role is only advisory, with the Board of Standards and Appeals responsible for the final decision, but things are looking good for the rooftop greenhouse. [PMFA]
