Tokyo Architects Making Their Mark on East Village Lot

We've been waiting since last fall for the BMW Guggenheim Labs-sponsored art pop-up?designed by Curbed obsession and Tokyo architecture firm Atelier Bow-Wow?to come to the rat-infested empty lot at 33 East 1st Street. The opening date isn't for a few weeks yet, but DNAinfo has a construction check, and it looks like the structure is pretty much in place. So what is this thing? It'll host lectures and workshops for 10 weeks, plus a cafe. We've heard some grumblings from neighbors about the construction, but maybe they're just filling the void left by the rats.
