Making quick work of the Marriage Equality Act passed by the New York state senate on June 24, an intrepid group of friends is launching Pop-Up Chapel in Central Park on July 30—the first weekend gay marriage is legal in the Empire State. Pop-up Chapel has enlisted bridal juggernaut The Knot and architecture site Architizer to run a competition calling for temporary chapel designs; the entry fee is only 20 bucks and the prize is $3,000 to build one fabulous wedding pavilion at the tourist mecca Merchants' Gate on the southwest corner of Central Park.
