Oops, sorry, Battery Park City?you won't be getting those library lions. Even though an anonymous local donated the funds for a pair of five-foot bronze lions sculpted by Tom Otterness, the Battery Park City Authority wasn't sure it could accept the donation or pay for the sculpture's maintenance. There was also the little matter of "Shot Dog," Otterness's 1977 performance art piece that involved shooting a stray adopted from an animal shelter, and that has kept many opposed to his work ever since.
