MyBlockNYC Takes Video Crowdsourcing to the Streets

Longtime Gridskipper fans-- at least the ones with active YouTube accounts-- will get a kick out of this launch: MyBlockNYC is a hyperlocal video mapping site that presents a moving picture of New York City, thanks to user-uploaded videos corresponding to city blocks. Founder Alex Kalman tells Daily Intel, "It's like getting a mixtape. You don’t know what’s on it, so it's the excitement of what's the next track." We fear a Chatroulette situation more than its more docile cousin the mixtape, but so far, so gentle. We took it for a spin and and spotted an ice cream truck rolling through the courtyard of Bloomberg's Gracie Mansion, a carnival joust in Astoria, and skateboarders ollying around a construction site.
