As expected, the MTA gave official approval to both Shake Shack and the Apple Store for outposts at Grand Central Terminal. Shake Shack will be taking the Zocalo space in the Dining Concourse, while Apple will be in the Metrazur space at a rent of $800,000 for its first year and $1.043 million/year for the rest of the 10-year lease. The MTA's design rules for Apple: no glass cube, and the retailer has to leave enough space by the balcony railings for people to climb up and look into the station. Which will have longer lines: the Shake Shack, or the Apple store on a product release day? [Gothamist]
