It's been more than a year since we first drooled over the mysteriously unlisted duplex penthouse at 535 West End Avenue. In the months since, the building's other units have tried their luck on the market, and some have sold at significant and confusing discounts. But the megapenthouse never showed up on the market, and rumor had it the place had already found a buyer. Turns out it had, sort of! But not anymore.
The Journal has the full story, which is this: the building's developer, Extell head Gary Barnett, originally planned to move into the 9BR, 11BA, 13,779-square-foot penthouse himself. But he plans to stay in his Queens house instead, so the massive penthouse is hitting the open market. The ask?brace?is $37.5 million. The building doesn't exactly have a history of selling apartments at listing prices, but this penthouse has plenty of features its neighbors don't.
The penthouse highlights reel: two staff rooms, a fitness room, a fireplace in the master bedroom, a library, media room, and two kitchens, and 2,400 square feet of terrace space. See it all on the floorplan (also downloadable as a larger PDF):
