Roosevelt Island Gets Spiffy New Park, Shoreline Bunker

New, 2 comments

Color us surprised to see that the Louis Kahn-designed FDR Four Freedoms Park Memorial (proposed in the '60s, designed in the '70s, worked on in the '80s and abandoned until the '10s!) is finally taking shape. As for that shape, it won't be finished for another few years although it looks as if "The Room" won't change much from its present incarnation.

Meanwhile, reports from the Instant Gratification Tipline tell us that the 7-acre middle section of Roosevelt Island (between the Goldwater Hospital campus and the Renwick Ruins smallpox hospital) is set to re-open tomorrow morning as Southpoint Park.
