Is your loft space lacking architectural detail? Deck it out in plaster and vents that look like "portals to another dimension" as the owners of this one-bedroom in the old Eagle Electric factory in Long Island City did. The artist and gallerist DIY-ed a "sculptural, idiosyncratic backdrop" for an effect that's part art gallery, part design shop, full-on awesome. At the very least, adding feet to your furniture is one way to add handmade zaniness to a bland apartment box.
