Neighborhood purists, time to get rankled: Stuyvesant Town marketers at Rose Associates are now billing the complex as "spacious apartments in Manhattan's East Village." So how effed is that ad in this morning's Metro, anyway? Depends on if you're arguing from a geographical borders standpoint or a philosophical neighborhood spirit one. Frankly, the spirit of the East Village died off in parts, the days the crusties moved out, Mars Bar got shut down, and NYU built its first dorm. Not to mention, the moniker is a nom de terre coined in the 1980s to "polish the upper reaches of the Lower East Side." [NYO]
