Repurposing bank vaults: the ne plus ultra of awesome building conversions. This roundup of ten bank vaults cites examples from Bridgehampton to Houston, though the vault at the old Williamsburgh Savings Bank, open to the public every Saturday during the winter for the Brooklyn Flea, ranks at #3. There is more elusive vault-spotting to be had in the basement of 20 Pine (which we toured this week), formerly Chase Bank's Manhattan HQ, and at 190 Bowery, the graffiti-covered 72-room bank/mansion inhabited by a photographer since the '70s. What others are we missing? [1800 Recycling via Brownstoner]
