A West Village couple loses their rent de-regulation lawsuit against a landlord, but manages to take one for the Stuy Town team. Though Bernard and Cora Gersten were not awarded back rent on their three-apartment combo unit at 56th Seventh Avenue, the judge happened to mention that an "earlier landmark decision—which protected rent-stabilized tenants from overcharges at apartments that were receiving a popular city tax break—can be applied retroactively." Next fun battle to fight: how much back rent is actually owed to all those former Tishman Speyer tenants. [Crain's]
