Green Stuff

The grounded East River Science Park is bearing a different kind of fruit: 6,000 plant varieties are being grown on a pop-up farm on the vacant lot at 1st Avenue and 29th Street. Riverpark restaurant, in collaboration with Alexandria Real Estate Equities, has converted 15,000 square feet of unused office tower foundation into a massive urban farm, making at least one stalled site that's making good on its open space. As for Alexandria Center for Life Science? The website has been in rendering phase since 2005, and construction on the tower was halted in 2008, so it looks like the farm won't have to move its portable milk crates anytime soon. [Crain's]
