The potential new owners of the Plaza Hotel want to renovate the landmarked Oak Room interior to carve out new bar bathrooms--and claim that a rejected permit could be a dealbreaker. Speaking for purchases Jacob Sebay and Associates, architect Glen Coben appealed to Community Board 5's Landmarks Committee for permission to create a "seamless," "hinge-less" door to a previously hidden 4'-wide space behind the paneling. Currently, customers are forced under duress to "walk out of the eatery, into the hotel and then into the Plaza’s food hall if they need to use the bathroom." [DNAInfo]
