Combining green design and science, ONE PRIZE: Water as the 6th Borough is a competition re-imagining New York's waterways as viable space for commerce, industry, and habitation. University of Toronto grads Ali Fard and Ghazal Jafari placed first (just ahead of a team from local architecture school Cooper Union) with a "blue network" bundling transportation with fun stuff ("recreation"). Perhaps since the jury included NYC Planning Commissioner Amanda Burden and Parks Department urban planner Charles McKinney, this thing has a shot in hell of coming to fruition? [Bustler]
