Spillover from western neighbors Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Williamsburg have caused a "racial metamorphosis" in the population of Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The neighborhood, long an African-American "culture capital" in New York, now counts a black population of 60%, down from 75% decade ago, according to 2010 Census data. The chance is especially evident in the "older Bedford section west of Throop Avenue," and Prudential Douglas Elliman VP Michael Guerra attributes the white influx to nearby Pratt Institute, as well as “couples and singles who are looking for more value and a segment of pioneers who think there’s a long-term upside.” [NYT]
