In yet another sign that the city's new developments are coming off the ice, construction permits for new buildings, building alterations, and demolitions increased by 12 percent in the first half of the year. Demolition permits specifically (a sign that a new project is starting) jumped 14 percent. Of course, the numbers are still about 6 percent below 2008 levels. Hey, maybe some iceberg construction would bump up the numbers. [WSJ]
