Bike Wars

New, 37 comments

The Observer reports that DOT Commish Janette Sadik-Khan has hired a firm to bring a massive bike share program to New York as soon as next summer. Emulating similar programs in Washington DC and London, the city has hired Alta Bike Share of Portland, Oregon, to manage the fleet of 10,000 bicycles spread from the Upper West Side to Crown Heights. Like DC's Capital Bike Share, subscriptions are available for short-term, 24-hour, multi-day or annual rentals. Whether or not tourists can muster the courage to bike through Manhattan before the entire fleet is vandalized is another matter entirely. [NYO]
