Getting Ready for Something New at 460 Washington

New, 20 comments

The north corner of Tribeca, recently rezoned to allow for residential development, is about to lose another bit of timeworn bricks. Outside 460 Washington Street, a two-story warehouse between Canal and Watts and across from the nearly complete 471 Washington, soil tests are underway. Word on the street says that what's to come will be "as big as the one across Watts," meaning the full-block 291-unit rental development, Truffles Tribeca, that went up to the south in 2008.

The development lots in question measure about 13,000 square feet, stretching along the north side of Watts all the way to West Street, and include a big surface parking lot facing the Hudson River. The owner of the site is the Ponte family, long-time neighborhood stakeholders with numerous nearby properties including the F.Illi Ponte Restaurant a block south on Desbrosses. A search of the Department of Buildings shows no recent filings for these lots, but something is definitely in the works. Our tipster line is always open, so send your secrets our way.
