Once upon a time, the buyers of an East 57th Street apartment loved the space (2,000 square feet) and views, but weren't so fond of the interior design: dark, baroque, lots of heavy paneling, and a doorbell that played Broadway showtunes. So they enlisted the folks at Katz Architecture for an extreme interior makeover. The goals: openness and light, more storage space, and a layout that would work for formal gatherings and family time. In other words, basically a whole new apartment! Above, the way the place looks post-renovation.
