A coalition of Long Island City pols, business owners, and residents are calling shenanigans on the operators of the proposed Gypsy Rose strip club, which they say are manufacturing the appearance of support in the neighborhood by slipping bills into local charities' g-strings, and then using the thank-you letters as proof of neighborly approval. 21 Group Inc., which operates the Gypsy Rose club, is lobbying the State Liquor Authority for a license to sell booze. The anti-club coalition is trying to nurture LIC's nascent family friendly atmosphere by limiting the number of strip clubs to the existing eight already in operation.
