Neighbor Beefs

New, 5 comments

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has big plans for a 261-foot-tall outpatient surgery center near its main building on the Upper East Side, but the neighbors aren't on board. Specifically, the residents of 440 East 62nd Street ?one of them actually scheduled for surgery at the hospital?are complaining that the new Sloan-Kettering building will block their light. They may be out of luck: the proposed building is actually 75 feet shorter than city rules permit. But it's also bulkier, so the hospital needs the Board of Standards and Appeals to grant a variance.
