Horse Auction House on the Block

A horse auction house is up for auction itself after developers were stymied in an effort to build condos on the site and defaulted on a $10.5 million loan. The nearly 12K square foot 1904 Beaux Arts building at 126 East 13th Street was once one of the largest sellers of horses and horse drawn carriages in New York, and later was the studio of sculptor Frank Stella. The building is not landmarked and could be sold to other developers, although a designation vote before the LPC is scheduled for June. [TRD via EVG]
