The landmarked Pier A on the Battery is in much worse shape than restorers initially thought, and preservation work to repair water damage and structural deterioration will cost more and take longer than earlier estimates. The estimated cost of the taxpayer-funded renovation of the 126-year-old Pier A is now $36 million (up from $30 million), and the facility is not expected to open to the public until mid-2013.
