The fact that Moscot is moving from its headquarters at 118 Orchard Street (above) to 108 Orchard?the former Tenement Museum store?might not ordinarily raise any eyebrows. But Bowery Boogie's addendum to that news does. Moscot is moving, rumor has it, because 118 Orchard will be razed for a new luxury high-rise. (The building's been the company's headquarters since 1936.) The property sold last year for $4.8 million to an LLC that's part of Helm Equities, and zoning regulations allow for buildings up to 12 stories in this particular spot. That's all we know for now.
