Where Will the De Niros Live While 88 CPW is Renovated?

New, 7 comments

Thanks to a fire this past June, Robert De Niro's fifth floor apartment at 88 Central Park West has to undergo an extensive renovation. The Post reports that the place is "unlivable" and the fix-up could take two to three years, which means that De Niro and his wife, Grace Hightower, are apartment hunting. They want a single-floor or duplex five bedroom rental with lots of closet space. Apparently, they are having a hard time finding something, and?gasp!?they might even have to move downtown. We did some StreetEasy research and discovered quite a few rentals, many uptown, that fit the criteria that the couple may want to consider. In the meantime, De Niro should have a talk with his broker son and find out why he's not being hooked up with a place STAT.

Where: The Millennium Tower at 101 West 67th Street
What: 5BR/4.5BA, 4,200 square feet
How Much: $48,500/month
The Scoop: At the Millenium Tower, the De Niros would be just a couple blocks from their home, and they wouldn't have to give up their Central Park views. The master bedroom has a giant walk-in closet, plus there is a separate laundry room and a library.

Where: 6 West 9th Street
What: 5BR/6.5BA, 9,000 square feet
How Much: $75,000/month
The Scoop: This renovated townhouse just came on the market, and it is jam-packed with modern amenities like security sureveillance, fiber optic internet, a 116" movie screen, a silent pneumatic elevator, heated towel racks, heated bidets, a Viking 8-burner range, an infrared barbecue, and more. There is no floor plan, and the listing doesn't mention anything about closets, so that may be a deal breaker.

Where: 247 Central Park West
What: 5BR/8BA, 12,000+ square feet
How Much: $90,000/month
The Scoop: This 6-floor townhouse is a tad bigger than a duplex, but it's on CPW. The master suite overlooks Central Park, and the dining room opens into a bamboo garden. The basement has a 60' fresh water lap pool and home gym, and there's a large roofdeck. A flexible lease is possible, which could be beneficial in case the renovation takes longer than expected.

Where: The Laureate at 2150 Broadway
What: 5BR/4.5BA, 3,256 square feet
How Much: $32,000/month
The Scoop: The Laureate is a little further uptown than 88 CPW, but this pre-war condo has floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, a Juliet balcony, walnut floors, and "custom-designed faucets and hardware created exclusively for The Laureate". Fancy! Plus, the master suite has two large walk-in closets.

Where: 166 Perry Street
What: 5BR/5.5BA, 4,500 square feet
How Much: $37,500/month
The Scoop: The De Niros seemed reluctant to move downtown, but Grace Hightower may change her mind once she sees all the closests in this West Village condo. It has 12-foot ceilings, views of the Hudson, and each of the five bedrooms has its own bathroom.

Where: 535 West End Avenue at 86th Street
What: 5BR/5.5BA, 4,396 square feet
How Much: $38,000/month
The Scoop: If the de Niros like to cook but hate doing the dishes, then this place is just the ticket?the gourmet eat-in kitchen has two dishwashers! Each of the five bedrooms has its own bathroom and closets, and there's also a library and wine storage room.
