The city is following through on its plans to go after illegal hotels, filing a suit today against Smart Apartments, which operates short-term rentals in more than 50 buildings in Brooklyn and Manhattan (or, at least, they did. They don't now.) The city has received a restraining order barring the company from advertising or operating in New York and is seeking $1 million dollars in punitive damages.
