New York freaked out yesterday over news that the Islanders were moving to the Barclays Center, but guess what? They aren't the first less-than-stellar hockey team for the borough. In the '40s, the Americans made Brooklyn their home, setting up a practice facility at the Brooklyn Ice Palace just a mile down the road from where Barclays sits. Unfortunately, they sucked, the NHL kicked them out, and the arena got bulldozed into a parking lot. [NYT; previously]
