13 Photos of NYC's Ghostly Shuttered Train Stations

New, 6 comments

The MTA put New Yorkers on house arrest last night, shutting down the entire public transportation system for an indeterminate amount of time because of Hurricane Sandy's looming arrival. Our busiest public places have been turned into ghost towns: Grand Central's main concourse is chaos-free, Times Square is eerily empty, and Penn Station looks incredibly creepy. The MTA shared photos on Flickr, including shots of crews building makeshift dams to keep Sandy's stormy waters from flooding the rail yards.
