The destruction of Hurricane Sandy has prompted officials to cancel the annual and beloved Village Halloween Parade, which has never been canceled in its 39-year history. The Park Slope parade also bit the dust. As for the NYC Marathon, scheduled for this Sunday, officials are still determining Sandy's effect on the course, but a spokesman said, "New York Road Runners is moving ahead with everything we can do to be on the way to putting on a great marathon this Sunday." But some runners may have trouble even getting to the city due to flight delays and airport closures. [Gothamist and NYT]
