Photos of a Grim and Desolate Lower Manhattan

New, 8 comments

Although most of the assorted wreckage that Hurricane Sandy left in her wake has been cleaned up or swept aside, Lower Manhattan remains without power and, to a lesser extent, without humans. We roamed the post-apocalyptic wasteland this morning, zombie-fighting stick in hand, camera on neck, and what we found was...well, not much. The vitality of the East Village has been replaced by rows of shuttered storefronts, the hordes of tourists in Soho by eerie stillness, and the traffic lights by traffic cops. Chinatown, somehow, remains reasonably crowded.
