Since Monday night, downtown Manhattan has been without power thanks to Hurricane Sandy, leaving its usually glowing towers to disappear into the dark every evening. New York's photographers have captured the strange skyline's beauty from afar, and last night, urban explorer/photog Max Touhey ventured into a blacked out Financial District. He describes it as "an apocalyptic playground when the sun goes down," adding that there was barely anyone around. "Besides the teams of workers pumping the water out Water Street I saw no more than 8 or 9 non-police or worker civilians walking the dark streets," write Touhey. With the power out until Saturday, downtown will have a few more lightless nights.
