Two manholes exploded at Greenwich and Reade Streets in Tribeca this morning. It is not yet known what caused the explosions, but ConEd was forced to shut down power to a neighboring residential building, 145 Reade Street. After the second explosion, someone was startled enough to throw a whole bunch of brussel sprouts they'd been carrying into the air, which led to a witness telling DNAinfo, "It was raining brussels sprouts." Exploding manholes are both terrifying and serious, but there is nothing that's not funny about the sentence "It was raining brussels sprouts." [DNAinfo]
