Comment of the Day

"I moved out of my first NY apartment a couple of days before the end of the lease. When I was served for my court hearing for my eviction (!) a few months later, I asked the neighbor if they really thought I was still there. She said that they had a painting crew in there the day after I left, and a new family moved in within 2 weeks. I went to court with my new lease, my mover's receipt, and my cable bill, hoping that would be enough. The landlord's attorney didn't even want me to get them out. He acknowledged that I had moved out and we left. I asked him on the way out, 'Were you just hoping I wouldn't show up and you would win be default?' He replied, 'Hey, my kids gotta eat.'"?anon [Pay Garnished for an Empty Upper East Side Apartment]
