Norman Foster's New UN-Neighboring Tower Unveiled!

New, 36 comments

Ground breaks today on 50 UN Plaza, the 44-story condo going up on a United Nations-neighboring lot vacant since 2007. And now we know what it will look like! The Observer got its hands on the rendering at right (click to expand!). And actually, the building?from 15 Central Park West developer dream team the Zeckendorfs?looks kinda like the earlier SLCE design proposed for the site, which called for 74 apartments.

The designer, though, is Norman Foster, and this project marks his first residential tower in the U.S. (he's been rather busy with commercial commissions). The apartment size mix for the 87-unit tower includes 1,100-square-foot 1BRs, 3,000-square-foot 3BRs, and a 10,000-square-foot penthouse duplex. The target audience is diplomats, who can use all that space for entertaining.
