Vertigo-Inducing Photos of the Collapsed One57 Crane

New, 10 comments

We've been waiting and wishing for up-close-and-personal photos of the collapsed One57 crane, and the day has finally come. Construction Graffiti shared these awesome and insane photos of crews securing the crumpled crane, 1,000 feet up in the air. The perspective is amazing and semi-terrifying at the same time, really giving a sense of just how tall One57 is and just how far the crane could have fallen.

These photos were taken on November 4, the day the crane was finally secured. Hurricane Sandy had snapped the boom in half like a flower, and it dangled over 57th Street for six days.

Now that it's secured, crews are working to dismantle it and replace it with a new crane. The neighbors, on the other hand, are busy suing Pinnacle Industries and Lend Lease over the incident.
