Dirty Creek Water Update

Some good news for Greenpoint residents worried about Newtown Creek water that flooded into their buildings: "The Port Authorty of New York & New Jersey has tested the water that flooded portions of Greenpoint and has determined that the water did not contain sludge from the bottom of the Newtown Creek where dangerous toxins reside," according to a press release from Assemblyman Joseph Lentol's office. Still, Lentol recommends wearing rubber gloves and other protective gear during cleanup and using bleach on surfaces that might have come in contact with the still-polluted, if not toxic, water.
