Post-Sandy Staten Island

New, 8 comments

Of all NYC's boroughs, Staten Island may be suffering the most from Hurricane Sandy. Waterfront neighborhood were completely wiped out, and 21 of the 40 casualties Sandy caused in the city occurred in Staten Island, which took the brunt of the storm surge. The relief response there seems to be much slower than elsewhere, with one homeowner saying, "Except for the rescuers, nobody's come. I am a citizen of this country, I pay my taxes on time every single year, and this is their response?" [Gothamist; NYT]
