Say Hello to the Pump Train

How does one go about removing tens of millions of gallons of water from the subways underground tunnels? A six-car pump train built from old subway cars equipped with three massive pumps that suck up 1,500 gallons of water per minute. The train, which is currently pumping water back into the Hudson from the Rector Street station, was also deployed during 9/11, but veteran transit workers say the flooding from Sandy is "unprecedented."
