The Times has a profile of the mysterious Joshua Rechnitz, the philanthropist who recently donated $40 million to build a velodrome in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Rechnitz retains his mysteriousness throughout, declining all requests for an interview, however, the piece does reveal a few things about him, such as how much he likes bike racing (a lot), where his money comes from (his family), and how much of it there is (a lot.) He is also called "quirky" by one of his partners because he "does not wear a suit and tie," although there's no mention of him having a job, so...doesn't really sound all that quirky.
