Despite the fact that it had already housed 120 homeless veterans during Hurricane Sandy, Carroll Gardens' controversial new shelter at 165 West 9th Street was temporarily closed today by a restraining order from the New York State Supreme Court (the veterans had returned to Queens two weeks ago, so the building was empty.) There will be a preliminary hearing for an injunction held next Friday. Although the shelter initially appeared to be moving ahead as planned, its status is now clearly in doubt.
