In conjunction with the release of High Life, a new book about modern condos, The Atlantic Cities has an interesting look at the history of apartment living in the U.S., starting with Junius Henri Browne's purchase of a $16,250 apartment in West 57th Street's Rembrandt building in 1881. The ranks of those who choose to own, rather than rent, have risen since, with one in 25 apartments nationwide owned in 1920 and one in four owned today. [TAC]
