Hurricane Sandy smashed the beloved Rockaway boardwalk to pieces, and parks officials say that the damage is so extensive that only parts of it will be fully functional by next summer. The worst damage occurred in the most-used sections, and officials are still in the process of removing the debris and figuring out how and where to rebuild first. Likely, this will be around concession buildings at 86th, 97th, and 106th Streets. [NY1; photo by Nathan Kensinger]
