Stanton Street Synagogue Crowdfunds to Fix Sandy Damage

New, 1 comment

The Stanton Street Synagogue got a $30,000 grant from the New York Landmarks Conservancy earlier this year, to be used for facade restoration, but the funds won't be enough to fix the "severe water damage" the building incurred during Hurricane Sandy. Bowery Boogie reports that the synagogue is now crowdfunding money for repairs, with the goal of raising $10,000. The building dates from 1913, and is, as Bowery Boogie notes, one of the city's few tenement synagogues left standing.
