Prom Dress Retailer Buys Massive Tribeca Pad for $16.5M

New, 17 comments

After a year and a half on the market, the massive penthouse at 200 Chambers Street has finally found a buyer. The 4,700-square-foot apartment combine three of the building's penthouses to create a 4BR/4.5BA spread with north, east, and west views. It came on the market in July 2011 for nearly $18 million, then saw an 8 percent pricechop this March. According to the Post, David Wilkenfeld, president of online retailer PromGirl.com, is the lucky rich man who plunked down $16.5 million to purchase the pad. The apartment is a huge upgrade for Wilkenfeld, who recently listed his 2BR on the seventh floor of the same building for $6 million. Who knew there was so much money in cheap glittery gowns!

The apartment sits on the 30th floor, and it was custom designed by an Italian billionaire who died before he ever moved in. It features a 53-foot-long wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, custom milled dark oak floors, and a master suite with a spa-like bathroom and hidden 50" television. There's a "floating" limestone tub, the two-person shower has eight body sprays, and the floors are heated. Throughout the whole place, the lights, shades, heat, air conditioning, and sound system are all controlled by a touchpad system.
